Commercial shutter for your premises

Commerical roller shutters

Commercial roller shutters are the right product for retail and commercial premises where the opening faces a public space — a high street, a retail park, a side street, a commercial courtyard. The buyer we're talking to here is typically:
  • Retail shop owners — protecting stock and fixtures from overnight break-in and opportunist theft, on premises ranging from small independents to multi-unit retail.
  • Restaurant, bar, and café owners — securing a front-of-house opening after service hours, often where the glazing is large and the contents are visible from the street.
  • Office and professional services premises — protecting ground-floor offices, reception areas, or storage units on commercial streets where overnight security is a concern.
  • Property managers and landlords — securing vacant or between-tenancy commercial units, or specifying shutters as part of a building fit-out or refurbishment.
  • If your opening is on a warehouse, factory, or large industrial unit — our industrial roller shutter doors page covers the heavier specification you need. The steel gauge, motor type, and span capabilities are different.

The right shutter for your shopfront

The first decision is what you want to be able to see — and what you want people outside to be able to see — when the shutter is closed. That determines which curtain type is right for your premises.

  • Solid galvanised steel

    Maximum security, complete closure

A continuous curtain of interlocking galvanised steel with no visibility through the door when closed. No way to see inside, no weak points, and a clear visual signal that the premises are properly secured.

Best for: High-value stock — jewellers, pharmacies, off-licences, electrical retailers — and any premises where overnight visibility of contents is a risk.

  • Perforated steel

Security with airflow & partial visibility

The same galvanised steel construction as the solid option, but with a punched pattern that allows airflow and lets in some natural light. Passers-by can partially see inside — reassuring for some businesses, a consideration to avoid for others with visible stock.

Best for: Cafés and restaurants where display lighting or interior ambience is part of the brand even when closed.

  • Vision shutters

    visibility and airflow, lighter security

Open-section slats with gaps between them — maximum airflow and visibility when closed. Security is lower than solid or perforated, but the open appearance suits businesses where the shopfront works for them even after hours.

Best for: Fashion retailers, boutiques, and hospitality premises where display visibility overnight is part of the brand. Shopping centre units where the centre's own security provides the primary protection.

  • Security shouldn't ruin your shopfront

Built to secure your business, engineered to withstand the elements.
A commercial shutter isn't just a security device — it's part of your shopfront, and your shopfront is part of your brand. A shutter that looks like an afterthought, or that clashes with everything around it, does something to the perception of your business even when it's open.
    • Powder Coat Colour Matching: We can powder-coat your shutter to any RAL or BS colour. Match your brand, your signage, or your window frames. (Dark colours like Anthracite Grey or Jet Black are the most popular as they read as intentional and modern).
    • Plastisol Finish: For high-traffic pavements, our Plastisol coating offers a thick, embossed leathergrain finish that is exceptionally resistant to scratches, weathering, and passing shopping trolleys.
    • Unified Finish: We can powder-coat the vertical guide channels and top boxes to match the curtain, ensuring a seamless architectural look.

What a commercial roller shutter does:

A properly specified and fitted galvanised steel roller shutter is a significant deterrent and a meaningful physical barrier. It substantially increases the time and effort required to force entry, which in most cases is enough to make a premises an unattractive target relative to an unshuttered one. It protects glazing from opportunist smash-and-grab attacks and prevents visual access to contents when closed.

    What it doesn't do:

No roller shutter in the world is 100% impenetrable to a determined attacker with heavy cutting gear and unlimited time. If you have exceptionally high-value stock (e.g., high-end jewellery), we recommend combining our shutters with monitored alarm systems.

    UKCA compliance:

All our commercial shutters are UKCA marked and manufactured to EN 13241 — the required standard for powered access equipment in UK commercial premises. If you’re renewing a lease or fitting out new premises, the UKCA marking is the compliance reference your landlord or building insurer will want to see.

    Insurance:

Some commercial property insurance policies specify a requirement for shutters on ground-floor openings. Check your policy before ordering — and if your insurer specifies a particular security rating, tell us at enquiry stage and we’ll confirm whether our product meets it.Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetur. Frequently Asked Questions

If you can't find the answer to your question, give us a call, we're happy to help

Installation requires fixing points for the guide channels and, in most cases, a structural fixing above the opening for the barrel bracket. For brick or blockwork surrounds this is straightforward — fixings go into the masonry and the opening itself is unaffected. For listed buildings or premises in conservation areas, we recommend checking with your local planning authority before ordering, as alterations to a commercial shopfront may require consent.

Yes. Powder coat is available to any RAL or BS colour — bring us a RAL number, a paint reference, or a sample and we’ll match it. Lead times for non-standard colours are typically a few days longer than standard finishes.

From confirmed order, manufacturing takes approximately 2–3 weeks for a standard commercial specification. Installation is then booked at a date that suits your trading schedule. Most customers have their shutter operational within 3–4 weeks of first enquiring.

Yes — and this is the norm. Installation typically takes one day or less. We’ll work around your opening hours wherever possible, with early morning starts available to ensure the shutter is operational before your first trading day.

Annual servicing is what we recommend — a visual inspection of the curtain, guide seals, bottom rail, and motor, plus lubrication of the moving parts. For shutters in high-cycle retail environments, annual maintenance keeps the motor and mechanism in good order and catches any wear before it becomes a failure. We offer maintenance contracts — ask at enquiry stage.

Roller shutter curtains can often be repaired by replacing individual slats rather than the full curtain, which keeps repair costs down significantly. Contact us and we’ll assess whether repair or replacement is the more economical route. For vandalism or forced entry damage, keep photographs for your insurance claim before any repair work is done.

For a new installation on a commercial premises, you may need planning permission depending on the local authority and whether your premises are in a conservation area or on a listed building. This is not guaranteed — many commercial shutter installations are considered permitted development — but it’s worth checking with your local planning authority before ordering if your premises have any designation.
