Phase 1: Measuring

Getting your measurements right is the first and most important step to a perfect installation. We manufacture every roller door based on the "Daylight" size (the actual physical hole in the wall).

Before you begin, grab a tape measure and a notepad. Always take your measurements viewing the opening from the inside looking out.

Measure your opening

Use the diagram in this section to guide you through these 5 essential measurements.
  • 1. The Width: Measure the width between the brickwork at the top, middle, and bottom of the opening. Because brickwork isn't always perfectly straight, always use the narrowest measurement.
  • 2. The Height: Measure from the internal garage floor up to the underside of the lintel. Ensure your floor is level.
  • 3. Right Side Space: Measure the flat, clear space from the right edge of the opening to the first obstacle (like a side wall, pipe, or shelving).
  • 4. Left Side Space: Measure the flat, clear space from the left edge of the opening to the first obstacle.
  • 5. Headroom: Measure the clear vertical space from the underside of the lintel up to the lowest part of your ceiling or joists.

Phase 2: Choosing Your Installation Type

How your door attaches to your garage depends entirely on the clearance you found in Steps 3, 4, and 5 in the previous section. Below you can see a birds eye view cross section of your garage door opening and how to install your garage door.

  1. Face Fix (usually recommended)

Fixing internally, completely behind the opening.

    • How it works: The guide channels and the roller box are mounted flat against the inside wall of your garage.

    • Why choose this: This is the cleanest-looking installation. It hides the tracks from the outside and maximizes your drive-through width and height.

    • What you need: You must have at least 90mm of clear space on both the left and right sides, plus adequate headroom above the lintel.

  2. Reveal Fix

    Fixing directly between the opening.

    • How it works: The guide channels and roller box are fitted inside the “tunnel” of the brickwork.

    • Why choose this: Necessary if your garage walls are completely flush with the opening and you have zero internal side room.

    • ⚠️ Crucial Warning: Because the roller box sits under the lintel in the opening, you will lose up to 370mm of drive-through height (300mm for the box + 70mm for the bottom slat hang-down). You will also lose 180mm of drive-through width (90mm per track).

  3. Combination Fix

One side Face Fixed, one side Reveal Fixed.

    • How it works: One side of the door is fixed behind the brickwork, and the other side is fixed inside the tunnel.

    • Why choose this: The perfect problem-solver if your garage is asymmetrical (e.g., you have 90mm of space on the left, but the right side is built flush against a boundary wall).

  4. Undersize Fix

Fixed behind the opening, but overlapping.

    • How it works: The door is fitted behind the opening, but because you have less than 90mm of side room, a portion of the guide tracks will be visible within the opening.

Phase 3: Clearance & Drive-Through Height

Understanding your final clearances. Use these simple dimensions to calculate your finished opening.

Headroom Requirements (The Roller Box)

  • To keep the roller box completely hidden behind your lintel (Option A), you need the following headroom:

    • 77mm Slat Doors: Require 300mm of clear space above the lintel. Diagram shows 77mm slat door setup.

    • 55mm Slat Doors: Require 205mm of clear space above the lintel.

The “Hang-Down” (Drive-Through Height) Even when your roller door is fully open, the bottom slat will always hang down from the box by approximately 70mm.

    • To calculate your true drive-through height on a Face Fix door, take your total opening height and subtract 70mm.
