4 metre roller shutter doors
The 4,000mm wide opening is one of the most common sizes we're asked about. At this span you're typically looking at a double commercial unit entrance, a farm building, a wide industrial bay, or occasionally a large double garage conversion.
Which specification do you need?
- Commercial single-skin: 75mm galvanised steel For unheated warehouses, shop fronts, and agricultural buildings where security is the priority and insulation isn't needed. High-strength interlocking galvanised steel. The most cost-effective commercial option.
- Commercial double-skin insulated: 95mm double-skin galvanised steel For heated workshops, distribution centres, or any commercial property where temperature control matters. Two layers of steel surrounding an insulated core. Choose this where both security and thermal performance are required.
- Residential or light commercial: 77mm insulated aluminium If the 4m opening is on a domestic property or a heated light commercial space, our 77mm insulated aluminium profile works at this width. Good thermal performance and a clean finish. The 55mm compact has a maximum width of 2,438mm and cannot be used at this size.

77mm domestic insulated

Which specification do you need?
- Unheated commercial: 75mm single-skin galvanised steel The most cost-effective way to secure a 3m agricultural, industrial, or commercial opening where insulation isn't a priority. High-strength interlocking galvanised steel with a tubular motor as standard. Prices start from £783.84 ex VAT.
- Heated commercial: 95mm double-skin insulated steel Heavy-duty security without sacrificing temperature control. Two layers of steel surrounding an insulated core, the right specification for trade units, heated workshops, and distribution spaces. Prices start from £1,382.76 ex VAT.
- Residential: 77mm insulated aluminium The gold standard for a 3m domestic garage. Good thermal efficiency, smooth quiet operation, and a clean finish available in a wide range of colours. At 3,000mm wide the 55mm compact isn't suitable, so the 77mm is your residential option at this size. Prices range from £705 to £800 ex VAT depending on height and box style.

A 3m commercial door covers most single-bay industrial and retail openings. Choose 75mm single-skin for unheated buildings, or 95mm double-skin insulated where temperature control matters.

Domestic insulated aluminium shutters
At 3,000mm wide, only the 77mm profile is available. The 55mm compact door is only manufactured up to 2,438mm wide.

The 2,134mm wide opening is the most common domestic garage size in the UK, what most people mean when they say a standard single garage. At this size you're almost certainly looking for a residential insulated aluminium door, and you have a genuine choice between two good profiles.
Which profile suits you?
- 55mm compact insulated aluminium: A slimmer, lighter profile that rolls into a compact barrel above the opening. If headroom above the lintel is tight, or if budget is a consideration, the 55mm is a good door, not a compromise. Thousands of homeowners choose it and it performs well for decades. Standard colours: white, dark brown, anthracite grey, black.
- 77mm insulated aluminium: A thicker profile with a larger foam-filled core, giving better thermal and acoustic insulation. The barrel is larger so it needs more headroom. If your ceiling allows it and budget isn't the deciding factor, the 77mm is the one we'd go for. It insulates better and feels more substantial, particularly if you use the garage as a workspace or utility room
