Why choose a roller garage door

If you've had a standard up-and-over door for years, switching to a roller is an upgrade that is immediately, obviously better.

  • Free up your driveway:
An up-and-over door needs a clear arc in front of it to swing open. That means you can't park close to the door, you can't have anything blocking the swing path, and on a short driveway it can mean timing the car's approach carefully. A roller door goes straight up. You can be bumper-to-door before you press open. The driveway is yours again.
  • You get your garage ceiling back: Up-and-over doors use ceiling tracks that eat into your usable height. A roller door coils neatly into a compact drum directly above the opening, leaving your ceiling completely clear for storage.
  • You stop thinking about it: The best home upgrades are the ones that just work. A remote-controlled roller door becomes muscle memory within a fortnight. No lifting, no checking it's shut, no rattling in the wind.
  • It looks better from the street: An up-and-over door has a visible frame, hinges, and a panel that divides the opening. A roller door is a continuous surface — cleaner, more modern, and more adaptable to the look of a contemporary home.

Before and after:

Real projects showing the full transformation from the starting point through to a finished space built to last.

Choose your specification

Both profiles are electric, insulated, and made to measure. The choice comes down to the size of your opening and how you use the space.

55 mm slat height

Insulated aluminium profile

The 55mm isn't the budget option — it's the right specification for most single garages. Fully insulated, electric, auto-locking, and built to last. For openings up to around 2,400mm wide it does everything you need without overengineering the job. The lighter profile also rolls more compactly, which suits situations where headroom above the opening is tight.

What you get:

  • 55mm foam-filled aluminium profile — thermally and acoustically insulated
  • Electric as standard — remote control with 2 handsets
  • Auto-locks every time it closes
  • Obstacle detection and anti-drop safety brake
  • Brush pile guide seals and rubber bottom weather seal
  • 30+ colour options — powder coat or plastisol finish
  • Maximum width: 2,400mm
  • 5-year warranty

Best for: Single garage openings up to approximately 2,400mm wide

    77mm slat height

Stronger, better insulated, and essential for wider openings

The thicker extrusion and nearly 40% more foam fill give the curtain the structural rigidity it needs across wider spans. Beyond approximately 2,400mm, the 77mm isn't the premium choice — it's what the engineering requires. It also delivers noticeably better thermal and acoustic performance, with 22dB of noise reduction.

    What you get:

    • 77mm foam-filled aluminium profile — thicker extrusion, greater structural rigidity
    • Nearly 40% more foam fill — 22dB noise reduction
    • Electric as standard — remote control with 2 handsets
    • Auto-locks every time it closes
    • Obstacle detection and anti-drop safety brake
    • Brush pile guide seals and rubber bottom weather seal
    • 30+ colour options including woodgrain foil finishes
    • Maximum width: 4000mm
    • 5-year warranty

Best for: Openings over 2,400mm wide, or where better insulation and robustness are a priority

    Frequently Asked Questions

If you can't find the answer to your question, give us a call, we're happy to help

Once your order is confirmed and your measurements verified — which happens via a call from one of our engineers within one working day — your door is manufactured and ready within 7–10 working days. For supply & fit customers in the North East, installation is then booked at a date that suits you. Most customers have their new door within two weeks of first ordering.

If you’re within our supply & fit area, no — we come to you for a free site survey and handle the measuring ourselves. If you’re ordering supply only, you do measure yourself, but it’s simpler than it sounds: you need the brick-to-brick width and the floor-to-lintel height. Our measuring guide walks you through it in under five minutes, and an engineer verifies your numbers before we cut anything.

This is the question we’re asked most often, and it’s a fair one. Before we cut a single piece of metal, one of our engineers calls to go through your measurements. If something looks unusual — a dimension that doesn’t match a standard opening, numbers that don’t add up — we flag it and work through it with you. We’ve caught a lot of transposed digits and forgotten-to-subtract-frame measurements this way. You won’t end up with a door that doesn’t fit.

Almost always yes. Roller doors work with standard rectangular openings, arched openings, and garages with tight headroom — the 55mm profile needs only 300mm of headroom clearance above the opening. The one situation where a roller door may not be suitable is an opening with very irregular sides or a structural issue with the surrounding brickwork, which our site survey would identify before anything is ordered.

Quiet enough not to disturb people sleeping next to the garage. The 77mm profile achieves 22dB of acoustic reduction — operational noise is a soft mechanical hum rather than a rattle or clunk. The brush pile seals in the guide channels reduce both draughts and noise simultaneously. It’s not silent, but it’s quiet enough that midnight arrivals aren’t an event.

The doors we supply come with remote handsets and a wall switch as standard. Smartphone control via app is available as an optional upgrade through compatible smart home systems, call us to discuss compatibility if this is important to you, as it depends on the control system fitted.

Almost certainly not. Replacing an existing garage door — even changing from up-and-over to roller — is permitted development. The exceptions are listed buildings and conservation areas, where you should check with your local planning authority before ordering.

Yes — and unlike a reseller’s warranty, there’s no third party to argue with. We made the door. If something fails within five years due to a manufacturing defect, we deal with it directly. The warranty covers materials and workmanship across the full door.
