Industrial roller shutter doors

Built for warehouses, factories, and loading bays. Heavier steel, heavier motors, made to take what a working building throws at it — every day. Made to measure in Sunderland.

Specified for the harshest environments

Industrial strength

Industrial roller shutters are engineered for openings that face one or more of the following demands:
  • High security: heavy-gauge galvanised steel is a serious physical deterrent. Whether you're protecting high-value stock, plant, or equipment overnight, an industrial shutter is a fundamentally different proposition to a light commercial or domestic door. It takes significantly more time, effort, and noise to breach — which in most cases is enough.
  • High Daily Cycle Frequency: Loading bays and distribution centres opening dozens of times a day need components rated for relentless workloads.
  • Large Spans: Openings wider than 4–5 metres, or tall enough for HGV access, need a steel curtain with the structural integrity to handle massive wind loads without distorting.
  • Harsh Environments: Exposure to weather, forklift impact risks, and dusty/wet operations.
  • Temperature Control: Food production units, cold stores, or heated factories where maintaining internal temperatures is a strict operational or compliance requirement.

What our industrial shutters are made from

The defining difference between an industrial roller shutter and a lighter domestic door is the steel. Everything else — motor size, guide gauge, spring rating — follows from that.
The majority of our industrial shutters fall into the two categories below:

Single skin

Security and weather protection

Our single-skin galvanised steel shutters are the workhorse of the industrial door range. A continuous curtain of heavy-gauge interlocking steel slats — strong enough to resist impact and forced entry, specified to operate reliably under daily use across large spans.

This is the right specification when temperature control isn’t a priority. You need the opening secured, protected from weather, and operating reliably day after day. Loading bays, secure storage units, plant rooms, agricultural buildings.

Specification:

  • Curtain: Heavy-gauge galvanised steel interlocking slats
  • Finish: Galvanised steel as standard — powder coat to any RAL/BS available
  • Operation: Electric as standard (tube motor for smaller spans, direct drive for larger)
  • Motor supply: Single phase (240v) or three phase (415v) depending on door size and cycle frequency
  • Guides: Heavy-duty galvanised steel guide channels
  • Bottom rail: Heavy-duty with weather seal
  • Safety: Obstacle detection, anti-drop brake, manual override as standard
  • Maximum width: Up to 7,000mm (subject to wind load zone)

Insulated double skin

Temperature control, energy, and acoustic performance

Two skins of galvanised steel with a rigid foam core between them — thicker and stronger than the single-skin, and built to do more. Where the single-skin keeps weather and intruders out, the double-skin also keeps temperature in — reducing energy costs in warehouses, maintaining compliance zones in food production and cold storage, preventing condensation on machinery in workshops, and attenuating noise between operational areas.

Specification:

  • Curtain: Double-skin galvanised steel with CFC-free rigid foam core
  • Insulation: Thermal and acoustic — U-values and dB ratings available on request
  • Finish: Galvanised steel as standard — powder coat to any RAL/BS available
  • Operation: Electric as standard — motor matched to door size and cycle frequency
  • Motor supply: Single phase (240v) or three phase (415v)
  • Guides: Heavy-duty galvanised steel guide channels
  • Bottom rail: Heavy-duty with weather seal
  • Safety: Obstacle detection, anti-drop brake, manual override as standard
  • Maximum width: Up to 7,000mm (subject to wind load zone)

Application

Industrial roller shutters are engineered for openings that face one or more of the following demands:
  • Warehouses and distribution centres: High daily cycle count, large spans, and security requirements are exactly what this product is built for. Single-skin for ambient storage, insulated for temperature-sensitive stock. Wide enough for HGV loading bays, motor-specified for the cycle frequency your operation demands.
  • Factory and manufacturing units: Production environments need a door that operates reliably under constant use without becoming a maintenance liability. Our industrial shutters are specified to outlast the building fit-out around them.
  • Agricultural buildings: Farm buildings face a specific combination — wide spans for machinery access, corrosive environments from fertilisers and animal waste, and open exposure to the elements. Heavy-gauge galvanised steel handles all of that in a way lighter materials don't.
  • Loading bays and dispatch areas: Fast, reliable, secure. Loading bay shutters often take the highest cycle count on a site. Motor specification, bottom rail robustness, and guide strength are sized accordingly. Loop detector and traffic light integration available.
  • Self-storage facilities: Security is the primary specification driver. Single-skin galvanised steel with reliable locking, appropriate motor control for multi-tenant access, and a finish that holds up to years of public-facing use.
  • Cold stores and food production: Insulated double-skin for temperature-controlled applications. We can discuss U-value requirements and compliance specifications for food production environments at survey stage.
  • Workshops and trade units: For smaller industrial units, standalone workshops, and trade premises — this product gives you commercial-grade security and durability without over-engineering the specification.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you can't find the answer to your question, give us a call, we're happy to help.

Confirmed as part of the specification process — it’s determined by the opening width, wind load zone, and application. Tell us what the site requires and we’ll specify accordingly.

Yes. A pedestrian-sized wicket door integrated into the curtain is available where personnel need building access without raising the full shutter.

Typically 2 weeks from confirmed order for a standard industrial specification. We don’t give optimistic lead times we can’t hit.

Yes. Annual planned preventative maintenance contracts for all industrial shutters we install, keeping you covered under PUWER.

In most cases yes — call us to discuss. We can assess most standard industrial shutters and advise whether repair or replacement is the more economical route.

Tell us at survey stage. We’ve worked with arched openings and structurally complicated surrounds. It’s rarely a reason a shutter can’t be fitted.

Yes — certificates available on request for tendering purposes.
